TURA, March 11: The Constitutional Rights’ Forum (CRF) on Friday opposed the appointment of MDC Rakesh A Sangma as the Chairman of the High Power Committee in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) while, at the same time, questioning whether there was a provision under ADC (Rules) to constitute the same.
In its complaint to the GHADC CEM Albinush Marak, the Forum sought clarification as to why there was a need to constitute the committee with Rakesh Sangma as the Chairman who has already been rejected by the people.
“Is your EM in-charge of Revenue not competent enough to coordinate with the state government with regard to revenue matters? If that is the case, why don’t you take the responsibility to speak to the state government?” the Forum said.
It added that the job of coordinating with other ADCs lies with the CEM or, in case of his absence, the Deputy CEM. It asserted that a Chairman cannot be equated with the CEM under any circumstances.
