Jumbo attack in SWKH village leaves one hurt

MAWKYRWAT, March 16: A herd of wild elephants on Tuesday wreaked havoc at Kalapahar village in South West Khasi Hills, leaving a person grievously injured and causing damage to the cultivations.
All Khasi Hills A.chik Federation (AKHAF) general secretary, Manuel Marak, informed that the incident took place on Tuesday at around 10 pm when the herd of wild elephants entered the village and destroyed cultivation of betel nuts, cashew nuts, bananas, among others.
He added that during the course of attack, one Choki D Shira (32) sustained severe head injuries.
The victim was immediately rushed to Ranikor CHC for treatment, following which he was referred to Shillong.
The AKHAF has, meanwhile, asked the state government to extend monetary support to the family of the injured person and to the ones whose cultivations have taken a hit.
