SHILLONG, March 16: The All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) has reprimanded the Meghalaya government for not being able to provide mobile network facilities across remote areas of the state.
In reply to a question raised by Opposition MLA, HM Shangpliang, Information Technology and Communication Minister Hamletson Dohling said that telecom is a central subject, which the state government is actively pursuing with the Department of Telecommunications, Government of India, to facilitate and expedite the process of providing network coverage in the remote villages.
A list of 1,613 such villages has been sent to the DoT for consideration, Dohling told the House on Wednesday.
He added that the state government will try to ensure Kenbah and Kenmynsaw village areas get mobile network coverage under Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF).
