SHILLONG, March 23: Senior BJP leader, AL Hek on Wednesday said the development of Meghalaya is dominated by central schemes.
He claimed it is mainly due to central schemes such as Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), Saubhagya, PMGSY, MGNREGA etc that the state is developing.
Earlier, the BJP had constituted a committee, headed by Hek, to monitor the implementation of central schemes in the state.
The BJP leader subsequently constituted the district committees.
Hek said the committee, he heads, will find out whether or not these central schemes are reaching the targeted beneficiaries and then, submit a report to the state government and inform the central government of the implementation of the schemes.
The committee has been set up at a time when JJM and Saubhagya scheme have come under the scanner for alleged shoddy implementation in the state.
The committees in Garo Hills and Khasi Hills will be headed by BJP MDC, Bernard Marak and BJP’s state secretary Dr Benedict Lyngdoh respectively. The committee in Jaintia Hills will be headed by Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council MDC, Lakhan Biam.
Hek refused to comment when asked if these schemes are being hijacked by the state government to show it is developing the state. He said following review of the schemes, the committee will give its opinion.
Asked if the various allegations of scams and irregularities will affect the BJP’s poll prospects as it is a component of the ruling coalition, Hek said the party’s state president was vocal against scams and corruption.
“We are working with the government for the people and not for the interest of the government,” he asserted.
