Workshop on local musical instruments

TURA, March 24: A five-day regional workshop on ‘Traditional Musical Instrument and Performing Arts’ got under way at North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) on Monday.
Organised by the A’chik Literature Society in collaboration with the Department of Garo, NEHU Tura, the regional workshop is being attended by the students from department of Garo, NEHU, Don Bosco College, Tura, ICFAI University, Tura, Williamnagar Government College, Tura Christian College, Sherwood School, Tura, and Capt. William School, Tura.
The day one of the workshop was attended by 109 participants.
The art of making and playing dama (drum), stringed instruments like sarenda and dotdrong out of gambare timber, flutes and chigring (percussion instrument made out of bamboo) are being taught in the workshop.
