WILLIAMNAGAR, March 25: In another major breakthrough for East Garo Hills police, a vegetable vendor was rescued just a day after he was kidnapped by a group of criminals from his rented home in Nongchram.
An FIR registered at the Rongjeng Police Station in this regard informed that the abductee, identified as Hanif Ali (57), was asleep at one Mahabel Marak’s house in Nongchram village, close to the border with West Khasi Hills, when a person, whose identity is yet to be identified, took Ali out of the house.
However, on receiving the information, police swung into action and immediately launched an operation. “Today at around 1:30 pm, the operation team entered Dimit Chikamagre and busted the hideout where the victim was held and rescued Hanif Ali. The abductors fled away on seeing the police team taking advantage of the thick jungle. An operation to nab the culprits is currently ongoing,” informed EGH Superintendent of Police, Bruno A Sangma.
