Prog for Shella, Bholaganj farmers
SHILLONG, March 27: A daylong agriculture technology outreach and capacity building programme under Tribal Sub Plan was organised by the ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam, in collaboration with the Ramakrishna Mission, Sohra, for livelihood improvement of tribal farmers of Shella Bholaganj, on Saturday. On the occasion, various crucial agricultural inputs worth Rs 5 lakh were distributed to the farmers selected by the Mission. More than 80 beneficiaries were covered by the inputs which included 40 back-mounted sprayers, 20 water pumps of 1.5 HP, 20 water tank of 1,000-litre capacity, 20 vermi-bed silpaulin sheets, five jalkund silpaulin sheets, 38 insect light traps, farm hand tools of Rs 50,000 and animal medicines of Rs 50,000 along with animal feeds. Welcoming the delegates, Secretary of Ramakrishna Mission, Sohra, thanked the ICAR for taking the initiative and expressed his keen interest to extend the activities of the mission in agriculture sector as well.

Seminar on higher edn in India
SHILLONG, March 27: A two-day national seminar on ‘Quality and Relevance of Higher Education in India’ organized by IQAC, Women’s College, Shillong, and sponsored by RUSA, concluded here on Saturday. The seminar focused on various aspects of higher education and learning on both the days. A total of four technical sessions and a plenary session were held in the course of the two days during which 23 papers were presented by several scholars from both the region and from the other institutions of the country. On day 2, Sonal V Misra, IG of CRPF, NES, who was the chief guest of the programme, spoke about the importance of the continuation of girls’ education even after their marriage as the process invariably gets disrupted because of family responsibilities post marriages. She further pointed out that pursuing higher education becomes problematic not only for women but also for men, adding that this aspect needs to be looked into for a reformed and progressive society. Meanwhile, Prof Bhagirathi Panda from the Department of Economics, NEHU Shillong, in his valedictory speech, stressed on the fact that higher education in India has a lot of challenges which must be overcome to rise up to global standards.
