GUWAHATI, March 27: “University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) is an institutional model to learn from, and a model to be replicated,” said Assam education minister Ranoj Pegu, while addressing the 59th All India Political Science Conference and International Seminar on “Global Rise of Incredible India,” at the university on Sunday.
“In India, we don’t want to be a superpower, we want to be viswaguru in terms of knowledge, philosophy and norms-building. The National Education Policy-2020 talks about a knowledge-based vibrant society, and I hope the Indian Political Science Association (IPSA) too will contribute towards this,” Pegu, who attended the concluding day of the conference as chief guest, said.
A galaxy of vice-chancellors, educationists, academicians and Political Science professors from across India took part in the two-day conference.
Delivering his speech as guest of honour, D Ravinder, vice-chancellor of Osmania University, Hyderabad (Telangana) said that one nation doesn’t stand for one education policy.
“There should be dissemination of knowledge in school education and the central government should come up with a common syllabus for students up to Class 12,” he said.
Earlier, in his welcome speech, USTM chancellor Mahbubul Hoque thanked the delegates while saying that the two-day conference and seminar is a learning chapter for the USTM students.
“We want to make USTM a global destination,” Hoque said.
The two-day academic event, jointly organised by IPSA and USTM, has been held for the first time in Northeast India.
