TURA, April 3: The Association of Democratic Empowerment (ADE) in Tura has urged the government to fulfil its promises to SSA teachers to release their salaries and to refrain from issuing any threats to the teachers who are only demanding what is rightfully theirs.
“We have come to know that when the teachers recently announced boycotting their duties, a letter was issued by the Director of School Education and Literacy asking All District Education Officers and District Mission Coordinators to furnish the names of the teachers who took part in this boycott in a prescribed format, so that they can take disciplinary actions against them. ADE finds this letter very troubling and feels it is a dictatorial means to terrorise the teachers and to conceal the government’s failure in fulfilling their promises time and again,” ADE president Dalseng Bira Ch Momin said in a release.
Recalling the rally held recently by the SSA teachers in Shillong, Momin said that as always, the teachers during talks with the authorities were assured that their salaries would be released as soon as possible. However, after the stir was suspended, no action was taken on the assurance forcing the teachers to renew their agitation.
Reiterating that the association would always stand with the teachers over their genuine demands, Momin hoped that the government would solve this issue once and for all so that the teachers do not have to take to the streets again.
