SHILLONG, April 6: The state government will soon unveil a mechanism to address the impact of poor network connectivity on digital learning in Meghalaya, according to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma.
Elucidating further, the CM said once the mechanism is in place, educational institutes across the state will get access to better connectivity.
The chief minister announced this in his address to the student fraternity from East Khasi Hills, during a programme at U Soso Tham auditorium here on Wednesday.
During the programme, Conrad also informed that the government, in a bid to facilitate digital learning, will provide around 35,000 students with M-Tabs.
Recalling an interaction with a student from a rural school, the chief minister said that the student sat in the classroom with a hope of getting smart without using the technology available there.
“So, my message is very simple. You have to actually use the technology; sitting idly in a classroom will not make you smart,” he said, urging the students to utilise the M-Tabs for learning.
“Technology is as good as you use it. If you simply think that you will be able to take this tablet, hold it, put it in your bag, and you will get smarter and automatically you can learn then this is not happening. So you have to learn to use and take advantage of the device,” he added, while contending that digital learning is all-important in the contemporary world.
The chief minister and IT & Communication Minister Hamletson Dohling, during the occasion, also distributed M-Tabs to students from various schools of East Khasi Hills.
