Nari Contractor undergoes operation
Mumbai, April 7: Former India captain Nari Contractor will be released from the hospital after successfully undergoing an operation to remove the titanium plate that was inserted in his skull 60 years ago following an injury during the 1961-62 tour of the West Indies. The plate, which was inserted after Nari Contractor suffered a life-threatening injury when he was hit by a bouncer by West Indies fast bowler Charlie Griffith during a tour match against Barbados at Bridgetown on the 1961-62 tour, was removed during an operation at the Reliance Foundation Hospital on Wednesday. “The operation went well and he is recovering. The doctors will decide in the next few days when he could be discharged,” Hoshedar Contractor, Nari’s son, told IANS on Thursday. (IANS)
SA’s du Preez retires from Tests, ODIs
Johannesburg, April 7: South Africa batter Mignon du Preez on Thursday announced her retirement from Test and ODI cricket with immediate effect. Du Preez, 32, made 154 ODI appearances for the Proteas and also featured in one Test match, against India in 2014. The reason behind her decision to retire from Tests and ODIs is to concentrate on T20 cricket and spend more time with family. (IANS)
Tamim to return for Test vs SA
Port Elizabeth, April 7: Bangladesh batter Tamim Iqbal is fit and available for the final game of the two-Test series against South Africa, skipper Mominul Haque confirmed on Thursday. The 33-year old was ruled out of the first Test with a stomach problem. Opener Shadman Islam is expected to pave way for the experienced campaigner as he will open the innings with Mahmudul Hasan Joy. (IANS)
