Police investigation on after Ronaldo knocks fan’s phone
MANCHESTER, April 10: Police are investigating an incident that saw Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo apparently slapping a phone out of a supporter’s hand as he left the field after a 0-1 loss at Everton. “As players were leaving the pitch at 2:30 pm, it was reported that a boy was assaulted by one of the away team as they left the pitch,” Merseyside Police said Sunday adding that ‘inquiries are underway.’ In a post on Instagram on Saturday, Ronaldo added: “I would like to apologize for my outburst and, if possible, I would like to invite this supporter to watch a game at Old Trafford as a sign of fair-play and sportsmanship.” (AP)
Injured Reyna to miss season, confirms Borussia Dortmund
Berlin, April 10: Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund have confirmed that Giovanni Reyna will not play again this season after suffering a muscle and tendon injury. Reyna has featured in just 13 games across all competitions in the 2021-2022 campaign and has missed over 100 days for the Bundesliga giants. The 19-year-old started in BVB’s last Bundesliga game against Stuttgart on Friday but lasted only six minutes before limping off. Dortmund, in a statement on their website said: “Midfielder Gio Reyna, who had to be substituted early in the game, suffered a muscle and tendon injury. The season is over for the American.” (ANI)
FIH Women’s Jr WC: India lose to Netherlands in semis
Potchefstroom, April 10: The Indian women’s hockey team’s dream run in the FIH Junior World Cup came to a screeching halt after it suffered a 0-3 defeat to three-time champions, the Netherlands in the semi-finals, here on Sunday. India, whose best finish in the tournament came in the 2013 edition where they finished as bronze medallists, were eying a maiden berth in the summit clash. The team so far produced high quality hockey to march into the last-four round unbeaten. But it was not to be as the Netherlands scored three field goals through Tessa Beetsma (12’), Luna Fokke (53’) and Jip Dicke (54’) to emerge winners and sail into their fourth straight final.
FIH Pro League Ind-Eng women’s games cancelled
NEW DELHI, April 10: FIH Pro League matches between India and England women’s team, initially scheduled on April 2 and 3 in Bhubaneswar was initially postponed due to a high number of COVID cases and injuries affecting the English team, has now been cancelled. Despite all efforts from Hockey India, England Hockey and FIH, no dates could be found to reschedule the matches in India. Consequently, it has been agreed between the FIH and the 2 nations that the 6 points available for these 2 matches will be awarded to India. (ANI)
Aditya Singh wins men’s 10m Air Rifle T3 natl shooting trials
New Delhi, April 10: Aditya Singh of Uttarakhand won the men’s 10m Air Rifle T3 trial on third day of the National Selection Trial 3 & 4, currently underway at the Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range here on Sunday. Aditya dominated Tamil Nadu’s Sri Karthik Raj in the gold medal match to carve out a 17-9 verdict in his favour. Aditya qualified seventh for the semi-final stage. (PTI)
