SHILLONG, April 12: The state government is preparing an affidavit to be submitted before the High Court of Meghalaya highlighting the steps taken to address the concern raised by the Court with regard to the absence of a roster system for recruitments in the state.
The High Court had issued an order on April 5, putting a stay on all recruitment processes in the state.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Tuesday said the government has already reviewed the matter with the Chief Secretary.
“We are preparing the affidavit to reply to the concern raised by the High Court and we hope we will be able to move forward in a positive way and get this matter resolved since there are many boards like the police and education which are conducting a large number of recruitments in the state,” he said.
In their order, the two-judge bench of Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee and Justice W Diengdoh had described the absence of a roster system as a “deplorable state of affairs, which leaves open possibilities of nepotism and arbitrariness and worse forms of subversions”.
The Court said it was alarming that despite 50 years of the formation of the state and 50 years of reservation in state government jobs, there is no roster system in place.
