KVK holds campaign for Ri-Bhoi farmers

SHILLONG, April 23: As many as 30 farmers from three villages of Ri-Bhoi were part of a mega campaign on ‘Annadata Devo Bhava’ on Saturday.
According to a statement, during the programme, which was organised by KVK Ri-Bhoi as part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, farmers were informed about promotion of natural farming, organic farming, integrated farming system, cultivation of millets for nutrition-rich thali, and enhancing income to sustain and create a self-reliant and healthy society.
Head of KVK Ri-Bhoi, Dr Mokidul Islam, during the programme, highlighted the importance of farming community “for building a hunger-free nation”.
Discussions on topics like promotion of natural and organic farming, millet crops and its nutritional benefits, bio-fortification, crop diversification etc., were also held.
Maize seeds were also distributed while a visit to Organic and Natural Farming Unit of Agronomy section, ICAR Umiam, was made in a bid to showcase various emerging technologies adopted for scientific cultivation.
