NEHU holds interaction with eminent author
Shillong, April 26: The Research Forum of the English Department of NEHU organised a Meet the Author live interactive session with noted author Dhruba Hazarika on Tuesday. A gold medalist from NEHU in Economics Honours from St Edmund’s College and also a gold medalist in Economics MA from Gauhati University in 1979, Dhruba Hazarika is one of the early authors from Northeast to have published his fiction from a major publication house like Penguin Random House. His first novel, Bowstring Winter, was published in 2006 by Penguin, which was based on his Shillong experiences. His other two novels include Sons of Brahma, which was about insurgency in Assam and Luck, his collection of short stories which is a part of the NEHU syllabus. In his candid interaction with the students, scholars and teachers, he spoke at length about Northeast Literature, about the creative process of a writer, and also about Shillong in the ‘70s.

New road inaugurated in city
SHILLONG, April 26: The newly constructed road connecting New Kench’s Trace and Lawsohtun PWD road, sanctioned under spa PWD scheme, for an amount of Rs 1,45,28,000 was inaugurated by South Shillong MLA, Sanbor Shullai on Tuesday. According to a statement, the programme was attended by members of the Dorbar Shnong Lumshatsngi Kench’s Trace, officials from PWD Department and Traffic police department, members of Srimantha Sankerdev cultural centre, Members of MCIC 19th South Shillong, leaders of BJP 19th South Shillong Mondal and residents of Lumshatsngi Kenche’s Trace. During the event, members of the Srimantha Sankerdev Cultural Centre were felicitated for donating their land free of cost for the said construction-cum-widening of the road.

Curtain down on USTM’s seminar
NONGPOH, April 26: A two-day long seminar on ‘Rehabilitation of Individuals with Multiple Disabilities’ organised by the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) concluded on Tuesday. The seminar was organised by the National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Multiple Disabilities (NIEPMD), Chennai, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan) under Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, in collaboration with Holistic Health Care Training & Educational Foundation, Rajgarh, Guwahati and was supported by Department of Physiotherapy, School of Allied Medical Sciences, USTM. According to a statement, the inaugural progamme of the seminar was attended by Vice Chancellor of USTM, Prof GD Sharma, Head of Autism Unit, NIEPMD, while renowned paediatrician Dr Prakritish Bora was the guest of honour for the event. The seminar emphasised the assessment and management of children with multiple disabilities.
