Ri-Bhoi farmers interact with union ministers

SHILLONG, April 26: Farmers from Ri-Bhoi on Tuesday joined their counterparts from across the country to virtually interact with Agriculture Minister, Narendra Singh Tomar, and Union Minister of State (MoS) for Agriculture, Kailash Choudhary.
The interaction was held as part of the launch of weeklong campaign ‘Kisan Bhagidari Prathmikta Hamari’.
The union ministers launched the campaign as part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations.
Against the backdrop of the campaign launch, the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Ri Bhoi, in collaboration with Agriculture Technology Management Agency organised a national campaign-cum-farmers’ fair on ‘Kisan Bhagidari Prathmikta Hamari’ and Jal Shakti Abhiyan.
During the programme, which was attended by as many as 150 farmers from seven Ri-Bhoi villages, doubts were addressed by experts on various scientific technologies.
Various self-help groups (SHGs) and farmers also displayed their produce during the programme.
A youth-progressive farmer, viz. Khrawbok Syngkli of from Pahamsyiem Village, was also felicitated for his contributions towards adoption of scientific agriculture.
Farmer’s fair in WGH
The KVK ICAR, West Garo Hills, on Tuesday also organised a farmer’s fair in collaboration with Agriculture Technology Management Agency as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations.
The programme was attended by the farming fraternity who exhibited their produce in stalls that were set up during the day.
“A farmers-scientist programme as well as seed distribution programme was also conducted during the programme,” a statement in this regard said.
