SHILLONG, April 27: Two employees of a well-known four-star city hotel have been arrested by the police for reportedly assaulting a prominent businessman from Shillong recently.
Sources on Wednesday revealed that the businessman in question had hosted a private party at Hotel Polo Towers on the night of April 11 when the incident took place.
It was informed that the two hotel staff assaulted the businessman and his guest after they cast aspersions on the service provided at the hotel.
According to sources, the businessman was severely injured and is still nursing his injuries.
When contacted, the city businessman, who did not want to be named, said that the trouble began when dinner was served and the guests had only begun eating.
He expressed his disappointment over the hotel services, which he felt had started deteriorating, and the delay in the arrival of food for the guest.
The businessman claimed that the waiter instead rebuked him and threatened him with “dire consequences”.
As the guests were ready to depart, there was a commotion outside the banquet hall of the hotel, he revealed.
Shortly after that, they were informed that an unruly crowd had gathered outside the hotel door wanting to settle scores with the host who was portrayed as the culprit.
“While we were discussing the matter and planning to inform authorities, the crowd of about 15-18 boys entered the hotel lobby and charged at us and pointing towards me shouting ‘he’s the one’,” the city businessman said.
He claimed that one of them took out a dao and struck him in the head and hands, which caused him to panic and fall.
However, the police managed to arrive at that point and caught the persons.
“I was rushed to Woodland Hospital for emergency treatment which resulted in 24 stitches on my head and both hands,” he said.
It may be mentioned that the victim did not file any FIR since police had already taken suo motu cognizance and registered a case.
When contacted, the owner of Hotel Polo Towers, Kishan Tibrewala, who was out of town on the day of the incident, expressed deep regret. “It is very unfortunate to have happened in one of our properties. It has never happened before. We have settled the matter with the guests and now await the outcome of the police case,” Tibrewala said.
