SHILLONG, May 2: Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong on Monday ruled out the NPP having an understanding with the UDP in Shella Constituency for the upcoming 2023 Assembly polls.
Addressing a public meeting of the NPP Shella Block, Tynsong, who is also the national vice president of the NPP, said that the party has already projected its MDC from Nongshken, Grace Mary Kharpuri, to contest from Shella.
“I had to rush to attend this meeting since I got a call from several quarters whether the NPP will have an understanding with the UDP in Shella. How can there be such an arrangement when we have our own candidate,” he said.
The NPP vice president already predicted that the party MDC from Nongshken will be sitting in the Secretariat after the Assembly election in 2023. “She (Kharpuri) will be creating history to be the first woman representing Shella constituency since 1972,” Tynsong said.
Stating that there are many regional parties in the state, Tynsong said sadly they cannot do anything beyond Khanapara.
“But the NPP is being recognized till Delhi. We will be in a better position to raise the issue afflicting the people of the state in Delhi being a national party,” Tynsong said.
Others present on the occasion include NPP MLAs Macmillan Byrsat and Pyniaid Sing Syiem, KHADC chairman and NPP MDC from Mawphlang, Lamphrang Blah, party MDCs Alvin Sawkmie, Bajop Pyngrope and Teibor Pathaw.
