TURA, May 4: The GSU Northern Zone along with its various units has warned of agitation lest the Damra-Bajengdoba road, the construction of which has been pending since 2020, is not completed on time by the contractor concerned.
The construction of the aforesaid road was allotted to Badri Rai & Company.
Although it was in early 2021 that the work on the road started in full swing, the GSU alleged that barring a few minor repairs, there has not been much progress on the road till date.
The GSU on Wednesday submitted a complaint to the North Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, seeking his intervention into the matter.
The complaint to the DC comes after repeated complaints fell on deaf ears of the PWD department.
“The people of Resubelpara, Mendipathar and their adjoining areas are facing immense hardships due to the deplorable condition of the road after work was abandoned. The road is riddled with potholes at present and the coming monsoon season will only make things worse if nothing is done to repair it,” the GSU said.
The Union, while urging the DC to direct the contractor to expedite the construction work, warned that it would resort to agitation if there is inaction.
