Awareness campaigns for farmers in M’laya

SHILLONG, May 17: As part of Kisan Bhagidari Prathmikta Hamari campaign, the Directorate of Horticulture, through the Office of Managing Director, MgSFAC, recently organised programmes and activities aplenty across the state.
According to a statement, the programmes conducted during the campaign included awareness-cum-training programme on vegetables, flowers, ginger, turmeric, etc. by resources persons from KVKs, ATMAs, etc.
Training was also conducted on different techniques of raising seedlings, aftercare, on-field management of pests and diseases by manual and biological method for these crops.
“The farmers were distributed with vegetable seed kits to mobilize and motivate them,” it said.
Awareness-cum-training programmes on market linkages were also conducted for farmer producer groups at district level.
“Training programme on mushroom cultivation was also imparted to farmers with special focus on the species suited for the state based on agro-climatic conditions, viz. Agaricus species (Button Mushroom); Pleurotus species (Oyster Mushroom); Lentinula ededes (Shitake Mushroom). Training was given to farmers on how to take up mushroom cultivation as an agri-business. Practical demonstration on preparation of oyster cube & button composting was also conducted,” it said.
