CMs should take up price rise issue with Centre: Tynsong

SHILLONG, May 19: With the spiraling prices of essential commodities burning a hole in the common man’s pocket, Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong on Thursday said the chief ministers should take up the matter with the Centre.
“This is not just for Meghalaya but all the CMs need to have the same voice. The issue has to be taken up with the Government of India to try and give some relief to the people,” he said.
He also said that Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma, who was in Delhi, was supposed to meet the Finance Minister and take up the issue.
There is a perception that the flood in Assam might affect the transportation of essential items to Meghalaya resulting in price escalation but Tynsong said the state government will make sure the prices do not go up.
He said he has already instructed the Food and Civil Supplies department to take care of the issue. He said there is no impact of the Assam flood on Meghalaya so far and that the state has adequate stock of essential items.
