SHILLONG, May 24: UDP working president Paul Lyngdoh on Tuesday asked the state government to immediately arrest the concerned contractor and also blacklist the company which is executing the construction of the new Assembly building.
Expressing concern over the collapse of the recently-installed dome, Lyngdoh said the PWD (Buildings) Executive Engineer who is overseeing the project should be immediately terminated.
Lyngdoh said the collapse of the dome was a big insult to the state since the Assembly itself has come under the scanner due to the compromises made in the quality of construction.
Lyngdoh dismissed the claim of the PWD (Buildings) Executive Engineer that the dome had collapsed due to faulty design and said, “This is only an attempt to cover up since he was responsible for monitoring the project.”
He also questioned the decision of Uttar Pradesh Rajkiya Nirman Nigam Ltd to subcontract the work of the Assembly building to a company like Badri Rai & Company which has a questionable track record.
