SHILLONG, May 24: Transport Minister Dasakhiatbha Lamare ruled out the possibility of instituting a judicial probe into the inferior quality of construction of the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) at Mawlai Mawiong which sustained damages following heavy rainfall last week.
Lamare termed the damages to the ISBT as minimal and said there was no need to initiate a judicial probe for such a small rectification.
According to him, such damages in any construction work, whether a house or a building, is a common phenomenon.
Lamare, however, said a departmental inquiry will be set up to find out the actual cause of the cracked walls and leaked ceilings.
Meanwhile, an official of PWD (Roads) asserted that the bridge on the Mawlai Bypass was not damaged and only the settlement of earth filling was not done since the bridge has a height of 30-40 metres.
The official said the contractor had found it difficult to take the road roller up to the bridge for settlement of the earth filling.
He informed that necessary repair was completed and the bridge was fully reopened to traffic on Friday.
