SHILLONG, May 26: In a development which will bolster the healthcare services being offered by the Shillong Civil Hospital, a biological waste management system, 10-bed Geriatric Ward and PSA Oxygen Generation Plant were inaugurated at the hospital by Heath Minister James PK Sangma on Thursday.
The inaugural programme was organised by the office of the Joint Director of Health Services, Civil Hospital.
In his address, Sangma lauded the hard work and dedication of the medical and non-medical staff of the hospital in systematically and efficiently running the hospital in spite of numerous challenges.
Stating that Civil Hospital Shillong has set a benchmark which, according to the minister, is worthy of emulation in other districts, he said inauguration of the waste management system, geriatric ward and oxygen plant is an indication of the progress that the state is making.
Terming the addition of these facilities as a “new start”, the Health minister has stressed on the need to replicate the same in all medical health facilities across the state.
Speaking on the occasion, Principal Secretary, Health and Family Welfare department, Sampath Kumar, praised the role of Civil Hospital in tackling COVID-19 pandemic and the enthusiasm exhibited by the hospital and its staff in improving the delivery services.
In this regard, Kumar stressed on the need for a positive and contagious spirit to be shared by all medical and non-medical staff to bring about further transformations in the future.
Informing that the cancer wing of the hospital is fully operational, Kumar said that Civil Hospital Shillong can also be upgraded to a super specialty hospital in the years to come with hard work and right attitude.
