MAWKYRWAT, May 26: Ending months of speculations, HSPDP leader and Mawkyrwat MLA, Renikton L Tongkhar who is also the PHE Minister in the NPP-led MDA government is all set to join the United Democratic Party.  According to a letter sent by close supporters of Tongkhar, who are also leaders of the HSPDP Mawkyrwat unit, addressed to the president of the UDP Mawkyrwat Circle, a meeting held on May 23 unanimously decided that Tongkhar would join the UDP as part of the preparation for the 2023 elections.
“Therefore, we want to meet all the office bearers of the UDP Mawkyrwat unit to discuss and set the date for us to join the party in order to speed up the party organisation,” the letter added.
However, things did not go well within the UDP Mawkyrwat Circle as majority of the leaders were not happy with the move of the UDP central body to accommodate Tongkhar.
Sources informed that majority of the leaders of the UDP Mawkyrwat Circle will resign in the next few days as a mark of protest against the decision.
