SHILLONG, May 29: Nongpoh MLA, Mayralborn Syiem called for urgent upgrade of the facilities available at the primary health centres and the community health centres to control the high percentage of infant and maternal mortality in the state.
“For the IMR and the MMR rates to drop and institutional delivery to go up it is of utmost importance to improve the quality of the PHCs and sub-centre labour rooms in the state,” Syiem said.
He reasoned that if the labour rooms and the health sub-centres are well equipped and in good condition then only the ASHAs will be able to convince pregnant women to go for institutional delivery.
He urged the government to establish more health sub-centres and improve the service delivery in the PHCs in order to provide better healthcare facilities to the citizens.
