Posthumous award for former city bizman

SHILLONG, May 29: Former Shillong-based businessman and a staunch follower of Sree Narayana Guru was on Saturday posthumously conferred with Sree Narayana Guruseva Universal Award 2021, during the 9th Annual General Meeting of the Universal Confederation of Sree Narayana Guru Organizations, New Delhi.
Shree Narayana Guru, also known as Shree Narayana Guru Swami, was a Hindu saint & social reformer of India.
Gurudevan, as he was known among his followers, led reform movement in Kerala, revolted against caste system and worked on propagating new values of freedom in spirituality and social equality which transformed the Kerala society.
According to a statement, the award was conferred upon Mohanan “for his outstanding role in establishing strong network in Northeastern India in propagation of Guru’s ideals.”
Mohanan was the founding president of Shillong-based sociocultural organisation, Sree Narayana Guru Cultural Centre (SNGCC).
