Workshop on anti-TB drugs awareness

SHILLONG, May 30: A workshop on the ‘Role of WHO in Quality Practises in the field of Pharmaceutical Sciences’ was conducted by the World Health Organization (WHO) officials from Meghalaya and Assam at the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) recently.
The workshop was organised by the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, USTM, in collaboration with World Health Organization (NTEP), North East Region.
According to a statement, the resource persons from WHO included Regional Team Lead, WHO-National TB Elimination Programme, NE region, Dr Dhrubajyoti Deka, WHO Consultant, Meghalaya and Assam, Dr Gautom Borgohain, among others. The WHO members discussed various roles undertaken in order to eradicate tuberculosis from the country by 2024.
Speaking at the event, Vice Principal, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, USTM, Pallab Kalita, said, “This was indeed a great learning experience for the students where the speakers raised awareness about the different anti-TB drugs coming under the Schedule H1 category. The prioritised domain of the discussion was regarding the role of a practicing pharmacist to adhere to different guidelines laid out by the WHO to maintain an appropriate and rational use of medicaments.”
