TURA, May 31: Alleging foul play in the death of a girl who was earlier said to have lost her life in an accident involving a police requisitioned vehicle on the night of May 3, several organisations from East Garo Hills have called for a re-investigation into the case.
Earlier, South Garo Hills Police had claimed that a Bolero vehicle requisitioned by the force plunged into a gorge at Rari in North Garo Hills leading to the death of the girl who hailed from Rengregre in East Garo Hills. While the victim died on the spot, other occupants of the vehicle sustained minor injuries.
Suspecting foul play, family members of the victim filed an FIR with Tura women’s police station on May 6 claiming that the victim had been kidnapped, raped and murdered by the occupants of the Bolero, who later made it look like an accident.
With the revelation that the victim hailed from East Garo Hills, several organisations from the district submitted a complaint to the district police chief demanding justice for the victim as well as action against the culprits.
The organisations, in their complaint to the SP, named several police personnel as accused in the crime.
