SHILLONG, June 5: A total of 465 children were provided health services during a health camp-cum-awareness programme, at Mawkasiang Juvenile Home, East Khasi Hills.
According to a statement, the Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority (MSLSA) in collaboration with the Directorate of Health Services (MI), District Legal Services Authority, East Khasi Hills, and Office of District Child Protection Unit, East Khasi Hills, organised a health camp-cum-awareness on child rights for children of childcare institutions.
“During the health camp, 33 childcare institutions took part in the programme and services like medical aid were provided to 465 children,” the statement said.
During the one-day programme, children from various childcare institutions also showcased their singing, dancing and beatboxing talents.
The children were entertained through activities by the Meghalaya Police cultural troupe as well as other activities like zumba, music, dancing, etc.
Stalls were also set up for exhibition of schemes and services provided by various departments for the children.
Executive Chairman of MSLSA, Justice HS Thangkhiew, who was the chief guest during the programme, spoke about the aims and objectives of the legal services institutions and its legal services provided to the poor, marginalised and weaker sections of the society.
He also stressed upon the civil, political, social, economic and cultural rights of children by citing various provisions in the Constitution of India.
Others who were part of the programme include Secretary of Social Welfare department E Kharmalki, DHS (MI) Dr. Aman War, among other officials.
