SHILLONG, June 11: The upcoming political battle for Nongkrem constituency is set to fiercer with Bindo M Lanong deciding to contest the 2023 Assembly elections from the same constituency.
It may be mentioned that Cabinet Minister and Mawhati MLA, Dasakhiatbha Lamare, recently announced that he will contest from Nongkrem constituency in the midst of contenders like Voice of the People Party (VPP) president Ardent Basaiawmoit, United Democratic Party (UDP) chief adviser Bindo M Lanong and Independent Lambor Malngiang, who is the sitting MLA of Nongkrem.
Reacting to a query, Lanong said he has already decided to contest the upcoming elections from Nongkrem constituency.
“After my consultations and estimate, I think it is advisable for me that I contest from there and the prospect is quite good there,” he said, informing that he has a close connection with people from Laitkor and Nongkrem.
When asked about the challenges that he may be faced with from other candidates, Lanong said that nobody should be underestimated.
