CM inaugurates upgraded district auditorium in Tura
TURA, June 13: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Monday inaugurated the recently renovated and upgraded district auditorium in the presence Tura MP Agatha K Sangma, North Tura MLA, Thomas A Sangma, GHADC CEM Albinush R Marak and a host of distinguished dignitaries.The chief minister along with other dignitaries also unveiled the plaque for laying of foundation stone for construction including improvement of Tura Town internal roads funded by New Development Bank (NDB) on the occasion. Speaking during the inauguration, the chief minister expressed his gratitude to the organisers and the contractors for completing the work as scheduled. Reminding that the said auditorium was constructed by his father late PA Sangma when he was the Union Labour Minister, which went without repair for more than 30 years, Conrad informed that it was the MDA government, who after coming to power in 2018, sanctioned Rs 3 crore in the beginning and additional Rs 2 crore later for completing the renovation work. The chief minister also informed that other Externally Aided Projects under NDB such as Tura Smart Town Project where there are about 277 internal road projects, has also started with an amount of Rs 55 crore including Rs 40-50 crore which would be sanctioned from the state funds. He also introduced Chusrang Sangma, who was recently selected for training by the North East United Football Academy.

IIM Shillong student wins business Quiz
SHILLONG, June 13: Kunal Jain from IIM Shillong emerged victorious in the Cluster Finals of Tata Crucible Campus Quiz 2022, the online edition of India’s largest business quiz for campuses. The Cluster 24 finals which represented the Northeast region was a thrilling affair, with participants showcasing their quick thinking and sharp quizzing abilities. The winner took home a cash prize of Rs 35,000 and will now compete in the Zonal Finals to qualify for the National Finals. Omkar Dashetwar from IIM Shillong, was declared runner-up, winning a cash price of Rs18,000.

Cong MDC jumps ship to UDP
TURA, June 13: Former MLA from Dalu and three-time MDC in the GHADC, Kenethson R Sangma, has resigned from the Congress party to contest the 2023 Assembly elections on a UDP ticket. The former MLA, in a statement issued here, informed that he resigned from the Congress on personal grounds and is said to have joined the UDP along with around 270 active Congress workers. Sangma is set to contest the upcoming Assembly elections from his home constituency, Dalu.

SHILLONG, June 13: A special lecture was delivered by Deputy Governor of Reserve Bank of India, Dr Michael D Patra, on the topic ‘India at 75- Issues, concerns and the way forward vis-à-vis Eastern India’ during a programme organised by the Economic Society of the Department of Economics, NEHU, Shillong, on Monday. An Alumni of IIT Bombay, Dr Patra completed his post-doctoral research at Harvard University. He deliberated over the economic achievements of the country which today stands as the 6th largest economy in the world and is poised to become the 2nd largest in the coming years.
