SHILLONG, June 13: The Meghalaya State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MSCPCR) is awaiting the status report of the police investigation into the alleged murder of two minors by their father, Joefreeson Jana recently.
“We will be sending a reminder to the police to provide us with the report on the progress of the investigation into this case,” MSCPCR chairperson, Iamonlang M Syiem said here on Monday.
She said the police are also under pressure to complete the investigation fast considering the sensitivity of this case.
Syiem said the commission has also sought a copy of the FIR since it is not aware of the content.
The MSCPCR chairperson said they have also received a report from the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) in this connection.
She said the CWC report is mainly related to what it has done since the day the murder was reported.
Syiem also said the members of the commission have visited the mother and other family members of the two minors thrice.
She said the members of the Meghalaya State Commission for Women (MSCW) visited the family once and provided some financial help to the mother.
Syiem said the CWC will provide counselling to a minor in the family aged about eight years and that the MSCW will do the same for the other female members of the family, including the mother.
She also said she had been summoned by the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Committee on Women Empowerment (MLCWE) on June 20 in connection with this case.
