SHILLONG, June 24: A six-member inter-ministerial team will pay a three-day visit to Meghalaya to conduct spot assessments of the impact due to the recent flood and landslides across the state.
Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Kyrmen Shylla on Friday said the inter-ministerial team headed by Harsh Gupta from the National Disaster Management Authority, Ministry of Home Affairs, will arrive on June 28.
Shylla said Secretary of Revenue and Disaster Management department Matsiewdor War Nongbri will coordinate with one-half of the central team which will assess the damages in Garo Hills while Joint Secretary Ibashisha Mawlong will coordinating with the team for Khasi-Jaintia Hills region.
In addition, the department will prepare a preliminary damage report immediately and place it before the visiting team, the minister said.
The respective deputy commissioners have been asked to identify the worst-hit sites and infrastructure for inspection by the inter-ministerial team.
Since April 1, as many as 34 lives have been lost in the state while 11 people are still missing.
At least seven persons including a six-month-old infant lost their life in a major landslide in Mawsynram on Friday morning.
Among the seven people who died included five from Dangar, one from Betkora-A and one from Ryngku, all due to landslides.
