SHILLONG, June 25: The body of a 19-year-old girl, who was reportedly murdered, was found in Tura days after she went missing.
According to the Superintendent of West Garo Hills, VS Rathore, the girl was reported missing by her family members from Tura since April 20.
A case was subsequently registered by Tura Women PS and investigation got under way.
Based on reasonable suspicion, a person was arrested from Bajengdoba area on June 22, while another suspect, a child in conflict with law (CICL) was also apprehended later.
During interrogation, the arrested person admitted that he had been in a relationship with the girl for 2-3 years.
He was suspicious about her having an affair with another boy.
He and the CICL then began snooping on her for quite some time.
On April 20, they called the girl to Bajengdoba on the pretext of sorting out their differences and murdered her on the same night, the police said.
In the wake of this admission, a massive search operation was launched on Friday with the leads being provided by the duo.  After more than 24 hours of search operations, the body was finally recovered on Saturday afternoon from a place located approximately 1 km from the house of the arrested person near Sona Chiring.
The mobile phone of the deceased which was buried near an electric pole located around 100 metres from the house was also recovered. Her body was brought to Tura for post-mortem.
Investigation is under way and charge sheet will be submitted soon, the police said.
