No illegal stone mining in Phublari: MLA

SHILLONG, June 25: Local MLA SG Esmatur Mominin has denied allegations of any illegal stone mining going on in Phulbari area of West Garo Hills district.
Reacting to a report about 500 illegal stone quarries reportedly being run near Phulbari, he said no he does not illegal stone mining going on in the area even as he admitted that there albeit there are stone quarries in the area.
“As far as my knowledge goes, there is no mining at all,” the Phulbari legislator said, adding that these stone quarries are a source of livelihood for thousands of people residing there.
Earlier this year, West Garo Hills (WGH) district administration had banned the mining the stones without the completion of the legal process.
Some locals earlier had said there are almost 300 small illegal stone quarries on the Chibinang-Bikkonggre-Dadenggre road.
