Guwahati, June 27: The Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) on Monday declared the Higher Secondary (HS) exam 2022 results, with pass percentages dropping across the streams from last year.
However, it is pertinent to note here that last year’s results were based on alternative assessment criteria as the exams could not be conducted owing to the pandemic situation.
Compared to 2020 when regular exams were conducted, the pass percentages have improved in the Science (from 88.06 percent in 2020 to 92.19 percent this year) and Arts (from 78.28 percent to 83.48 percent this year) streams but dipped marginally in the Commerce stream (from 88.18 percent in 2020 to 87.27 percent this year).
In the Arts stream, 83.48 percent (130324) students cleared the exam out of 1,56,107 students who appeared in the exam. Sadhana Devi of Kamrupa Girls’ Senior Secondary School and Cherry Gohain of Womens College Tinsukia topped the Arts stream with 487 marks.
On the other hand, a total of 33,534 students appeared in the Science stream and with 92.19 percent (30915) students clearing the exam. Dhritiraj Bastav Kalita of Deomoroni HS School bagged the first position with 491 marks in the Science stream.
In the Commerce stream, 15199 students had appeared with 87.27 percent (13264) clearing the exam. Sagar Agarwal of Vivekananda Senior Secondary School, Cachar topped the stream with 482 marks.
Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to Twitter to congratulate the students and motivate those who could not clear the exam.
“Congratulations to all students who passed the HS exams. May you all continue excelling in your academic pursuits. However, those who couldn’t perform well shouldn’t lose heart but keep trying. I’m sure you too will be crowned with success,” Sarma said.
As far as the district-wise performance is concerned, Baksa district stood out in the Science stream with a pass percentage of 98.27 in Science stream, followed by Nalbari and Sivasagar districts with pass percentages of 97.99 and 97.83 respectively.
In the Commerce stream, all the 28 candidates (100 percent) in Majuli district cleared the exam while South Salmara was placed second with 30 of the 31 students (96.77 percent) clearing the exam followed by Baksa district with a pass percentage of 96.53.
In the Arts stream, Dhemaji recorded the highest pass percentage at 94.67 followed by Nalbari at 93.54 and Lakhimpur at 92.99 per cent.
