SHILLONG, June 28: Police on Tuesday denied reports of four persons being arrested in connection with the assault of two student interns from Kerala at Jaiaw on Friday last.
When contacted, Superintendent of Police (City) Vivek Syiem said the process of identification of the miscreants was. He said police were looking for people who have been involved in similar cases of assault in the past.
Refusing to divulge any details, Syiem said, “It is too premature to speak on this case. I can only say that there are positive results and we are working on the case.”
To a query on whether the suspects had any connection with pressure groups, the police official said it was not important if the suspects belong to any organisation.
“What is important is to establish if they were involved in the case,” he said. Earlier in the day, an unconfirmed source had informed that police had arrested four persons in connection with the case. The source said the four were first picked up for questioning and later they were arrested.
It may be recalled that a group of around 30 youth had assaulted the two students – Rejaz M Sydeek and Sarath S Thambi who were in the city for an internship with Impulse NGO Network.
