Recent assault case has put Jaiaw
in bad light: Dorbar Shnong
SHILLONG, July 8: The Executive Committee of Dorbar Shnong Jaiaw Laitdom has lamented that the recent assault case has put the locality and the inhabitants there in bad light. In a statement, Jaiaw Laitdom general secretary HS Suting on Friday aired concern over the prevailing situation in Jaiaw area and urged upon the police to arrest the assailants. Condemning the assault of non-local labourers at Jaiaw Umpohliew and the assault of two students from Kerala, Suting has also assured that the Dorbar Shnong will work in tandem with the police to prevent recurrence of similar incidents. Urging the youths to join hands in this effort, he said that the Dorbar Shnong will ensure that people who visit Jaiaw feel safe and prevalence of peace in the area.
Seminar marks golden jubilee of MCTA, 70th anniv of UCC
SHILLONG, July 8: To mark the golden jubilee anniversary of the Meghalaya University Teachers Association (MCTA) and the 70th anniversary of Union Christian College (UCC), the MCTA and UCC organised a national seminar on “Governance and Development in Meghalaya” at Union Christian College, Umiam Kwan on Thursday. Honorary Director, Indian Social Science Research Council, North East Regional Centre (ICSSR-NERC) Prof B Panda was the chief guest and Associate Professor, Centre for Political Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi V Bijukumar gave the keynote address. At the seminar, eleven papers were presented by academicians from various universities/colleges across the country. The resource persons dealt with the various aspects of governance and development. Former Professor of Political Science at North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) Prof LS Gassah and Dean, School of Social Sciences, NEHU Prof K Debbarma moderated the technical sessions of the seminar. In addition to the academicians, other prominent members also attended the seminar.
Tura gets NEET centre
Tura, July 8: Residents, mostly from the student community, will finally have reason to rejoice with the National Testing Agency (NTA) finally setting up a centre for NEET in the town of Tura. Announcing the development, West Garo Hills (WGH) Deputy Commissioner Swapnil Tembe informed that from this year, 2022 onwards, students from the region would be able to write their NEET exams in Tura. “Holding of such examinations in Garo Hills will be a great blessing for the aspirants/students of the region. Efforts are being made to bring more such examinations in the near future to be held in the town of Tura so that more students can take part in the exams,” said Swapnil.
Conclave by Advancing North East
SHILLONG, July 8: Advancing North East initiative under the aegis of North Eastern Council (NEC) and implemented by the North Eastern Development Finance Corporation Limited (NEDFi) will host the New Age Career Conclave aimed towards the students of Northeast India from July 22 to July 24, 2022. The aim of the conclave is to connect minds from Northeast with new age industry experts. The career talks in the programme will focus on 9 themes, ranging from artificial intelligence, data science, cybersecurity, ethical hacking, robotics, automation, engineering & medical science, sports and fitness, content creation, design, finance, communication et cetera.
