SHILLONG, July 10: The state government is likely to extend the tenure of Chief Secretary Rebecca Vanessa Suchiang by another six months.
“She is set to retire on July 30 but the government wants to extend her tenure by six months,” a government official said on Sunday.
The source also said that Pankaj Jain, the senior-most IAS officer in the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, is unlikely to be appointed as Chief Secretary of Meghalaya.
Jain is currently on deputation to New Delhi as Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.
“The government can always overlook IAS officers who are on central deputation for appointment as Chief Secretary,” the source said, adding that the state government is keen to appoint Additional Chief Secretary Donald Philip Wahlang as Suchiang’s successor at the end of her extended tenure of six months.
