SHILLONG, July 17: In a first for the state, a surprise musical show titled “Ki Sur Na Pubon” (message from the cave) was organised inside the well-known Arwah cave at Sohra on Saturday.
The show was part of the ongoing Meghalaya Grassroots Music Project launched by the state government for artistes across the state.
“Ki Sur Na Pubon” featured young folk singers from Sohra including Sohra Sienmang, Leonard Syiemlieh and others who performed special songs that were in sync with the theme of the event.
Shillong-based band Summersalt inspired the local artistes from Sohra by performing together with them at the event.
“Ki Sur Na Pubon” is presented by Meghalaya Tourism and is being held in collaboration with Meghalaya Age Limited, Springboard Surprises and Clean Sohra Campaign.
Stating that Arwah cave is home to very important archaeological findings like fossils, chairman of Clean Sohra Campaign Alan West Kharkongor said that “while we promote these places as tourism products we should also make concerted efforts to sensitise visitors about the importance of nurturing and protecting whatever they come across during their travels in our state”.
It may be mentioned here that Sohra is blessed with natural assets like waterfalls, living root bridges, cave systems and general beautiful vistas that are ecologically important and sensitive and need to be looked after by one and all.
Noted caver Brian Daly Kharpran and members of the Meghalaya Adventures Association were also present during the event.
