State govt did all it could for ILP, language recognition: CM

SHILLONG, July 18: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Monday asserted that the state government and the Legislature did the best they could to fulfil the demand for implementation of inner line permit as well as inclusion of Khasi language in the Eighth Schedule and the ball was now in the Centre’s court.
Reacting to a query on the resurgence of the demand for ILP and the KSU’s commitment to take it to its logical conclusion, Sangma said the state will continue to engage with the Centre with regard to the two demands of the pressure groups and other stakeholders.
After the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly passed a resolution in 2019 to urge the Centre to implement ILP, no progress has been made in more than two years.
Even the central government is yet to make its stand clear with regard to these two demands.
