NEW DELHI, Aug 1: Weeks after bagging the ‘Most Promising New Destination’, Meghalaya has now been conferred with the ‘Best Promotion in Rural Tourism’ award at the three-day India International Travel Mart (IITM), Bengaluru.
An elated Chief Minister Conrad Sangma took to Twitter and said, “@meghtourism bagged the Best Promotion in Rural Tourism at the India International Travel Mart, Bengaluru. Congratulations to the Department and all the stakeholders involved.”
The chief minister had also lauded the department after Meghalaya bagged ‘Most Promising New Destination’ award.
This honour is viewed as a significant boost to the state’s tourism sector, which showcases the tranquil fairyland of Meghalaya intertwined with rich cultural legacy, pastel green meadows, lofty pine groves, and forest trails.
IITM, a travel expo, is an effort undertaken by the Union Ministry of Tourism to unearth local tourist attractions and experiences, and share the resources.
