Mayralborn for more equipment, manpower in Nongpoh CH
SHILLONG, Aug 4: Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem has petitioned Health Minister James Sangma for more medical equipment and better manpower in Nongpoh Civil Hospital.In a letter to the health minister, Syiem said the facelift is the need of the hour as mishaps are quite common on the road that not only connects Guwahati to Shillong but also is next to the hospital. Maintaining that poor people often have to go to private hospitals for diagnosis due to the lack of equipment, Syiem said the Health department should also focus on increasing the manpower in the hospital. He also informed the health minister that many corporate houses are willing to finance for different requirements of the hospital under their Corporate Social Responsibility. Syiem also stressed on the need to have a better trauma centre and labour room at the hospital.
MTET-qualified candidates move Rymbui, DSEL with demands
TURA, Aug 4: MTET-qualified candidates from Meghalaya, under the banner of the Meghalaya MTET Qualified Association, have knocked on the doors of Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui and Director of School Education and Literacy (DSEL) Ambrose Ch Marak with a slew of demands. The Association, who called on the Education Minister and DSEL on Wednesday, demanded that recruitment to vacant posts in lower primary and upper primary schools in the state be expedited, interview is conducted before a fresh MTET examination is held, and transparency is maintained during the selection of candidates. Pointing out that some of the successful candidates are about to cross the prescribed age limit in just a few months while others have already crossed it, the Association also demanded that fair chance be given to each and every candidate irrespective of their age.
City programme sensitises against child trafficking
SHILLONG, Aug 4: As part of World Day Against Human Trafficking, a one-day district-level sensitisation programme on ‘Combating Child Trafficking’ was organised by National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) along with Meghalaya State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MSCPCR) and East Khasi Hills District Administration here on Thursday. The programme was attended by officials from the district administration, NCPCR and MSCPCR, members of Juvenile Justice Board, Child Welfare Committee, police and BSF officials, et al. MSCPCR Chairperson Iamon M Syiem, during the programme, stressed on the need to make concerted efforts to address the problem of child trafficking. Senior Technical Expert, NCPCR, Shaista K Shah, on the other hand, gave a presentation and delivered lecture on ‘Combating Child Trafficking’.
3D-printed prosthetics for PwDs
SHILLONG, Aug 4: The emergence of 4.0 industries and the use of 3-D printing technology for designing prosthetics has been developed for the welfare of persons with disabilities (PwD) or Divyang in association with various national institutions under the Department of PwD. A live demo session of digital screening for designing customised prosthetics for people living with disabilities (Divyangjan) was held at the North Eastern Council (NEC) by a team from Assam Electronics Development Corporation (AMTRON) on Wednesday. The programme was held jointly by NEC, Composite Resource Centre, Shillong and AMTRON. During the programme, presentation was made on the aims and objectives of the programmes and initiatives taken by the Government of India for the welfare of Divyang. It is also pertinent to note that the prosthetic parts will be printed through 3D printers.
