Hek to take up Lady Keane tax notice with Defence min

SHILLONG, Aug 8: BJP national executive member and Pynthorumkhrah MLA AL Hek on Monday termed the decision of the Shillong Cantonment Board (SCB) to impose property tax of Rs 45 lakh on Lady Keane College as unjustified and avowed that he would personally take up the issue with Union Minister of Defence Rajnath Singh.
“I will urge the Union Defence Minister to revoke the order imposing property tax on one of the most reputed colleges of the Northeastern region,” Hek said.
According to him, the SCB should have consulted with the college management before issuing the order.
He said that Lady Keane College has contributed towards the uplift of the education system for the past several decades and has produced luminaries who have held important positions in the society.
It may be mentioned that Lady Keane College, has been asked to pay Rs 45 lakh as service charge by the Shillong Cantonment Board (SCB) as it is located on defence property, an official said on Sunday.
