NONGPOH, Aug 20: A driver and passenger of an auto rickshaw on Saturday evening sustained injuries after they were hit by a speeding truck in Nongpoh.
As per passers-by, the auto rickshaw was halted behind a pick-up vehicle, allowing pedestrians to cross the road, when a speeding truck hit it from the rear. The truck, however, fled the scene.
The injured persons were then immediately rushed to Nongpoh Civil Hospital for treatment.
It was also informed that the police are on the job to track down the truck.
Some auto rickshaw drivers have attributed the cause of the accident to a ‘go slow’ barricade put up on one side of the road.
They have urged the Police department to place the same before a zebra crossing, so that fast-approaching vehicles can slow down before reaching the zebra crossing.
The auto rickshaw drivers are of the opinion that doing so will result in bringing down such mishaps on the National Highway 6.
