SHILLONG, Aug 22: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Monday inspected the Shillong-Jowai road and assured its immediate repair.
The chief minister, who was returning from Mowkaiaw, halted at a stretch of Shillong-Jowai road and inspected it.
“The road has been damaged due to incessant rains and we will take up its repair at the earliest. I have directed the central agencies and PWD to take immediate action,” Conrad said.
It may be mentioned that the stretch of road between Mawryngkneng and Jowai remains in a terrible condition, much to the agony of the commuters and the like.
A visit to Jowai earlier had revealed that while the road connecting Shillong and Mawryngkneng is adequately good, the quality of the road ebbs away from Mawryngkneng.
Immediately after crossing Mawryngkneng, one is welcomed by bumps and potholes.
The poor road also attributes to traffic snarls, thanks to the trucks plying unabated despite the dilapidated road condition.
