Crowborough Hotel to be inaugurated on Sept 7

SHILLONG, Aug 24: Almost 35 years after it was first conceived the Crowborough Hotel will finally be inaugurated on September 7 under the brand name of Taj Vivanta.
Informing this here on Wednesday, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said following Crowborough’s inauguration on September 7, the five-star Courtyard Marriott at Jail Road will also be inaugurated soon.
The Crowborough Hotel, which will employ around 150 people in various capacities, will consist of eight economy rooms, 58 standard rooms, 30 deluxe rooms, five suites, one banquet hall and one coffee shop.
Proposed in 1987, the hotel has been in the news for over three decades for all the wrong reasons, having suffering innumerable delays along the way.
Meanwhile, the CM also said that the state government has come up with one of the best programmes for promotion of homestays by providing a financial benefit of around 50-60% to the applicants who would pay the rest through easy installments of Rs 5,000 per month.
Informing that around 300 applications for homestays have been received, Sangma said that the government is looking to come up with around 1500-2000 rooms under the programme.
