MAWKYRWAT, Aug 27: Sounder Strong Cajee, former leader of the Federation of Khasi-Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) and the son-in-law of Rowell Lyngdoh, on Saturday announced that he will contest the upcoming Assembly elections from Mawkyrwat constituency on a Trinamool Congress (TMC) ticket.
Cajee made the announcement during a meeting at Nativity Hall, Mawkyrwat, which was held to elect the office-bearers of parent body, women’s wing and youth wing of the Mawkyrwat Constituency Socio, Economical and Political Awareness Committee (MCSEPAC).
Speaking at the meeting, Cajee said that he decided to contest polls on a TMC ticket as there is no hope for the regional parties.
“The MCSEPAC was of the view that I should not join a small group, but I should join the Trinamool Congress, being the third largest party in India so that we can fight against the BJP, a party which is well known for being against the minorities,” Cajee said, adding that the TMC is the only party in Meghalaya that can challenge the NPP in the 2023 general elections.
He also informed that he along with supporters will join the TMC on September 24.
