SHILLONG, Sep 3: As many as 30 unprivileged students from Bihar have been selected for a four-day free educational trip to IIT-Guwahati (IIT-G).
According to a statement, the selection was made following a talent hunt examination conducted by the National Level Common Entrance Examination (NLCEE) in all districts of Bihar on August 21.
Out of the 1.3 lakh students who attempted the examination, 30 students, mostly belonging from farmer/daily wage worker’s families with no or very less resources at disposal, were selected for the trip to IIT-G.
“We are very proud of our students who have been shortlisted for this trip. The journey will be path-breaking as it will give them a high level of exposure. Such experiences will encourage the students in the holistic development of their careers and personalities. The trip to IIT-Guwahati will motivate students to pursue careers in Science and Technology and give them a first-hand experience of how the technology and teaching at IIT-Guwahati works,” said Central Coordinator of NLCEE, Suman Kumar Gunjan.
It is pertinent to note that the four-day tour will give students an experience about the functioning of the IIT-G. “There will be projects, department & lab visits, live demonstrations and simulations, group discussions and other activities which will further help students to dig deeper in the concepts,” the statement said.
It may be mentioned that the dreams of the 30 students of travelling in an aeroplane will also be fulfilled as part of the trip. “All the children will leave for Guwahati from Patna airport on 2nd September at 10 PM,” the statement said.
